more photos continuing from last week...
Triboro Bridge, which has just been renamed Robert F Kennedy Bridge
I don't know which bridge this is but it reminds me of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, although it's very old and rusty. Most of the bridges are in desperate need of repair. The Queensborough bridge (the one you see in Spiderman), is the only non toll bridge going into the city from Long Island and has just had 2 years of repair work on it. The rest of the bridges are now $5 each way.
We go over 3 bridges to go uptown this way.
Good ol $1 store, these are everywhere uptown.
The buildings uptown here in Harlem some of the most beautiful in the city. At one time Harlem was 'the place' to live, mostly the rich. It is now being reclaimed and restored as real estate is always in demand in New York. When I first went up to this area with my husband around 1990 white people did not go in this area, it was still very dangerous. Mayor Guiliani did wonders to make NY a safer place, there are not many areas you don't feel safe in at night now. Unfortunately...with rents rising and the large superstores moving into the area, I see the local business running into trouble. I'm sure in 20 years it will be a different place.
I have really been wanting to go up here and take a lot of photos...
guess I may have to wait for milder weather.
One more photo this one's for Matty.
We'd love to see your city...come join us at Unknown Mami's

I love the colors of your city. And the bridges are pretty.
That is one cute baby!
You have a great eye! And the special effects (or whatever it's technically called) make your pictures really striking. This sounds crazy but they help me hear and smell old old NYC. Love it!
Thanks for sharing for City.

Hi Shelle,
So good to hear from you today.
Those pics you took were amazing. You are a great photographer! It's a dream of mine to make it to the big city someday. One of my girlfriends is from Long Island. Hopefully we can make a trip of it someday. That's how I want to explore NYC...with someone who knows it inside and out:)
Your photos are always fantastic. I wish bridges didn't cost so much money to go across.
