Knitting - 52 Projects Week 2

I joined 52 Projects last week and posted my digital art...which i just started doing. (you can see some further down on my blog and above is a link to another blog where i've been keeping my treasures). Now don't think I've abandoned all my Sunday in the City crew....honestly it's been quite difficult getting the photos up each week, and I didn't have time this week to get them uploaded. And I have a lot of photos...and really need to start digging on my hard drive to find them lol...gosh our lives get congested so quickly don't they?

52_proj_badge_v2"52 Projects is an adventure in discovery. Every week, for 52 weeks, do something. Something you’ve never done before. Something you’ve always wanted to do. Something that scares you. Something that inspires you. Something that inspires others. Something that tickles your fancy. Something that caught your eye. Something that just popped into your head. It can be big. It can be small. It can be whatever you want it to be. Find out how doing something can lead you to discover things about yourself, your world, your God. Then, come here on Sundays and share it with others. I'll write about mine here, you write about yours on your blog, then use the tool in my post to link to your something. Please feel free to jump in and participate anytime throughout the year!"

This week I'm linking to my scarves, which I've just started knitting this winter. We don't have heat again this year due to the renovation...but my room is now toasty & warm with a little space heater...so when it gets really cold....like right now....I go upstairs and knit. I can't tell you how much this has been a blessing. My kids like to come into my room and lounge on the bed with me and just chat. I believe I've now discovered why knitters love knitting so much. It's not only the project they're doing....but it's something we can do while enjoying each other's company....or even while out.

Now at first I didn't think knitting scarves was much of a feat...until I started looking at designs & yarns....well that has definitely opened up some new ideas for me. And while looking around on other blogs of knitters, I discovered some people also dye their own yarn and weave. Isn't it amazing to see what happens when you dip your big toe in the ocean.

So now I have several scarves and am working this week on putting them on a blog to sell. My hubby goes to Starbucks every morning and knows everyone in town....he grew up here....and said he'll sell some. Knowing him he will. I said many years ago, if ever I worked the first income I make will go towards a housekeeper, so I have more free time to work and play. We'll see how it works out.

I'm off to do my next project....will see you next week!

Busy Birthday - Theme Thursday

Three Muses - Quote or Quip

Seals and Crofts
We May Never Pass This Way Again

Life, so they say
Is but a game and they'd let it slip away
Love, like the autumn sun
Should be dyin' but it's only just begun

Like the twilight in the road up ahead
They don't see just where we're goin'
And all the secrets in the universe
Whisper in our ears
All the years that come and go
Take us up, always up

We may never pass this way again
Dreams, so they say
Are for the fools and they let 'em drift away
Peace, like the silent dove
Should be flyin' but it's only just begun

Like Columbus in the olden days
We must gather all our courage
Sail our ships out on the open seas
Cast away our fears and
All the years that come and go
Take us up, always up

So - I wanna laugh while the laughin' is easy
I wanna cry when it makes it worthwhile
I may never pass this way again
That's why I want it with you

'Cause you make me feel like I'm more than a friend
Like I'm the journey and you're the journey's end
I may never pass this way again
That's why I want it with you, baby

Together - Collage Obsession Challenge #2

This "abandoned" house is my entry to Collage Obsession challenge #2.

I couldn't just leave her abandoned, without hope so I added a little optimism. I was practicing some layering on this one. I had a quick look last night at Art Freebies, and found these which fell together quite well. I want to thank you for your kind and encouraging comments....I'm having so much fun doing these!

Come out to play - Mixed Media Challenge

Games people play...this is what sprang to mind for the Mixed Media Challenge challenge this week. My children used to love playing this when they were young....and it made me think of the times on my front lawn, with them sprawling and giggling. I have 3 more little ones and can't wait to do it again come spring!!!

Sundays in my City

more photos continuing from last week...

Triboro Bridge, which has just been renamed Robert F Kennedy Bridge

I don't know which bridge this is but it reminds me of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, although it's very old and rusty. Most of the bridges are in desperate need of repair. The Queensborough bridge (the one you see in Spiderman), is the only non toll bridge going into the city from Long Island and has just had 2 years of repair work on it. The rest of the bridges are now $5 each way.

We go over 3 bridges to go uptown this way.

Good ol $1 store, these are everywhere uptown.

The buildings uptown here in Harlem some of the most beautiful in the city. At one time Harlem was 'the place' to live, mostly the rich. It is now being reclaimed and restored as real estate is always in demand in New York. When I first went up to this area with my husband around 1990 white people did not go in this area, it was still very dangerous. Mayor Guiliani did wonders to make NY a safer place, there are not many areas you don't feel safe in at night now. Unfortunately...with rents rising and the large superstores moving into the area, I see the local business running into trouble. I'm sure in 20 years it will be a different place.

I have really been wanting to go up here and take a lot of photos...
guess I may have to wait for milder weather.

One more photo this one's for Matty.

We'd love to see your city...come join us at Unknown Mami's

The World Waits - Sunday Postcard Art

I got a vision for this very shortly after I read the theme "Time" and I can't tell you how impatiently I waited to see it finished. A bit of Australiana in it....there's nothing like that view from the top of Ayes Rock! It's rather ironic that in the old days I guess they actually thought the world looked like that.

Don't wake me up til Saturday - Six word Saturday

Is is just us or is everyone battling the desire to just stay in bed the next month or two till its warmer. This one munchin of mine has been turning into a tough cookie....do you think i can get her out of bed....for school....for church. I gave up this week and let her stay home 3 of the days. But when I woke up this morning guess who was up at 6am and out the door with Dad? Only on Saturday! Something in her eyes tells me it doesn't just happen 'by accident'. Having little kids growing up with big kids around sure is a different ball game. My shot on this one! Do you think she'll believe me if I wake her up every day next week and tell her it's Saturday. 'Tricked you' (her favourite saying right now!).

Perfect Peace

Theme Thursday is basing the theme on your“Favorite Number”.

#7 is my favourite number and it just happens to be the number of perfection according to the bible. God is the only being that is perfect....and as our mind is focused on him He brings us peace.

As Time Goes By - Art Creations Friday Challenge 57

I'm joining in a little late here so I just did something simple. I'm learning new things every time though.

This was the first rushed job I came up with. Then I did this which I'm much happier with.

Textures from alicepopkorn and SkeletalMess

Winter has arrived....

I took these pics off my blog because the original collage had too many pics in them, so just reposting them. I have to be more careful in the winter months because I don't go out much, and the next thing I'm running out the door to the bus stop and I'm still in my pj's. Yes I have done it...I think only twice in 10 years of my 4 dropoffs & pickups. So I found a great way ...for me anyway.... to encourage me to actually not put the same clothes I wore the last 3 days at the end of my bed...back on. I pull out my pics instead of going thru my closet & decide what to wear while drinking my coffee. You would be surprised at how easy this makes dressing.
