I have just started photographing with a point & shoot. I don't have any other photo programs other than Microsoft Picture It and Paint.net which I downloaded for free. I must admit I'm somewhat inhibited due to everyone's experience and tools....but we have to learn to use what we have, right? The original photo...
Here I used Paint.net and twitched the contrast using curves...then I brightened and contrasted to get a little more depth. Added a touch more colour as the photo lost some of it's colour.
This 2nd fix I took the 1st after I lightened it and moved it into Microsoft picture it...cropped...antiqued, then adjusted the contrast and deepened the colour just a touch more.
I don't think these are anywhere near what you'all are doing, some of the pics are so beautiful...maybe I'll get my pics to look like that someday.

I think you did a fantastic job! It just goes to show that it has more to do with talent than the equipment or software. Sure those help, but I've learned over the years that not everyone has an eye for photography.
I think these turned out great, esp if this is the first time you're really playing with it.

They turned out just fine, but the main thing is the content of an original photo. And you got it with this one. The original photo is a great capture!
